Nobu Restaurant: Seattle
↓ process inside

Through a critique with my peers, we determined my sharp, planar forms were the most successful of my studies. The next step was to turn this study into a 1:24 scale restaurant interior for a proposed Nobu: Seattle.

I started with many iterations on an actual-size floor plan. I wanted every table in the restaurant to have it’s own personality. All the tables should become cohesive in their environment, yet at the same time, servers and customers were allowed 4’-wide unobstructed walkways that flow throughout the space.

The tables were separated from the floor and interior construction began.

A second floor was made in similar fashion, and a spiral staircase representation was made.

After what seemed like too many hours…

A long table prevents customers from entering through the side and also acts as a take-out window if Nobu: Seattle would be so inclined.

With primarily group seating below, the upper floor is reserved for couples’ seating and also features a moderate stage for live music.

When the audience views the performer, they are placed in front of a bright red backdrop, which also serves to reflect sound to the lower floor.

In contrast to the sharp, planar designs, an organic squid-like red light is placed centrally.
